On Tuesday I wrote about having passion to be successful at blogging. While the number of people blogging has declined, the one’s who bring real passion have made their mark in traditional media.

To highlight the value of blogging, let’s take a look at sports, one of America’s biggest vices next to money and sex.

I am not knocking sports journalist in my example, but there is a point and time for the majority of them that it becomes a job, not a passion.

While fans, short for fanatic, live and die with their favorite teams and players, their blogging styles are becoming mainstream content because of better content.

Their value is coming through on such websites as YardBarker and Bleacher Report.

These two sites bring all of the quality sports blogs under one umbrella. Then to fill the void and add additional content to online newspaper sports section, the top ones are gaining national exposure through such publications as SF Gate.com and LA Times.

Have you heard of that little sports company from Bristol CT called ESPN? I believe their moniker is world wide leader in sports? This online network has streaming video, breaking news and conference bloggers to reach the masses.

The spend over $3 billion dollars for the NFL for media rights, they are the network that has the coverage rights to the World Cup, they are the industry GIANT.  So ESPN Online should be dominating the sports blogsphere, right?

Let’s look at Comparison.com and how many unique visitors each site gets.

Bleacher Report is pulling more Unique Visitors and rank higher with Google.com than the industry leader, ESPN.

This is what passion can bring you, granted it took a collective group to reach this level but it shows blogging is not just dead yet.

That is why besides just blogging, you need to interact with other bloggers to help build your brand and market. Good luck and start publishing.
