Know Your Transparency
What is the difference between LinkedIn and Facebook?
Just the web address. Knowing online transparency is key to projecting a solid Internet profile. What you post and project on Facebook or MySpace is just as important as the business etiquette that you provide on LinkedIn.
If you are a small business entrepreneur or consultant, there is no separation between your personal and professional profile. As these two social networks blend into one, always maintain professional ethics. Using the list feature in Facebook will help maintain your professional image but do not use this as your safeguard to do as you damn well please.
If you post something, it can always be found.
Don’t Use Facebook
That is what I was told yesterday by a speaker at a social media event, that it is a waste of time and has no value.
That it cannot enhance your business branding and can only provide 5,000 friends. That it contains so much limitation and your privacy is taken away. So why do I go to this site everyday if it is of no value and provides so much transparency?
I do not play Mafia Wars or Farmville but I enjoy connecting with others from my past. As this social network has evolved over the past year, the majority of my “friends” are more business acquaintances than high school friends, so I am confused.
So where do you stand? Is it waste of time? Do you get any value from Facebook?
