The Blog Cream Rises

Caitlin Kelly, an award-winning journalist for the Montreal Gazette and New York Daily News asks “Is Blogging a Dying Art?

Ms. Kelly points to an article from The Economist how the numbers for registered blogs are stagnant and possibly even declining. It is largely based on the explosion of use on Facebook and Twitter. So should you nix the idea to stop blogging?

Depends on your motivation and passion.

If you just want to rant about your annoying neighbor, no one gives a damn. If you are a small business or entrepreneur, you should be blogging to build your value.

While blogs were the rage just two years ago, so many jumped on the bandwagon without realizing it takes hard work and dedication to be heard over so many others doing the same thing on the Internet.

It is really no surprise to see the numbers level off. The Pareto Principle falls into place here, only about twenty percent are willing to put in all of that hard work for the quality results within the online community.

Most people jumped in the open content market and thought they would have 10K loyal readers by the end of the month. With a big slap of reality, it takes a lot of posts, time and passion to make blogging a viable tool for your business.

Does it work? It must, because the early adopters that have stayed diligent to their voice and a consistent posting date seem to be the ones that got the early followers on Fan Pages and Twitter followers.

Just like everything else, if it takes hard work and dedication, most people are not in it for the long haul.

If you want to incorporate a blog to your website, make sure that you are committed. Just because it is technology does not necessarily mean instant results. Felony would recommend 12 months of sweat equity before you judge your ROI.
